How to exercise your vested equity

Details on how to place an exercise order for your options or warrants, sign the exercise notice and how to transfer funds

If you hold grants with a company that is using Capdesk, they can invite you to exercise them.

You will be state how many equity (options or warrants) you would like to exercise and sign all relevant documentation. The payment for the exercise will be handled externally.

You will have received an email invitation similar to the one below for you to exercise your equity.

N.B. You may or may not lose all your equity after the given date depending on the circumstance. 

Click the green 'Exercise your options' button to either log in or sign up.

Once you have logged in, click 'Portfolio' -> 'Current Holdings' -> locate the company that your holdings are in -> click the green 'Exercise' button on the right side of the screen.

Firstly, you will see an overview of the exercise process. In this article, we are detailing how to complete steps 1 and 2. Steps 3 is to be completed by the company.

You will need to input or select (using the bar) how many options you would like to exercise in each grant and view the total exercise percentage at the end of the bar.

You will then find a summary of how much exercising the options will cost and applicable for leavers only, how many options you will lose if you do not exercise before a certain date (this can be 0).

Once you have configured your order, click the green 'Request Exercise' button.

You will then be redirected to DocuSign to sign the relevant documentation i.e the Notice of Exercise.

You do not need to set up a personal DocuSign account to proceed to this step.

Once signed, your exercise order will be put through and the company will need to complete the process. 

The final step would be to transfer the funds. A summary of the cost and notes (i.e. payment instructions) left by the company will be found after signing the documentation. Please look to contact the company if payment instructions are not included.

Once payment is made, the company will need to complete step 3 before it is published for you to see in your portfolio.
